How Sumsub ID works

This article is about how Sumsub ID works during verification: what "Speed up your verification with Sumsub ID" does, how to share stored documents, and why your first verification requires uploading documents manually.

When you already have documents stored in your Sumsub ID, you can share them during verification instead of uploading from scratch. The app still runs its standard checks on the shared documents - your verification is faster because the upload step is skipped, not the security checks.

How to reuse your documents

To reuse stored documents during a verification:

  1. Start the verification process and select "Speed up your verification with Sumsub ID".

  2. Enter and confirm your email address.

  3. Select the documents you want to share from your stored ones. You will only see documents that match what the app requires.

  4. Complete a face scan to confirm you are the owner of the documents.

If the app requires documents or information you don't have stored in your Sumsub ID, you will be asked to provide them during verification.

What happens behind the scenes

When you share documents from your Sumsub ID:

Step 1: You choose what to share. You are shown only the documents relevant to the app's requirements, and you select which ones to send.

Step 2: A face scan confirms your identity. This prevents anyone else from using your stored documents.

Step 3: The app runs its own checks. The app checks your documents against its specific rules. Having a Sumsub ID speeds up the process but does not skip the checks.

Your first verification with Sumsub ID always requires uploading documents manually. After that verification passes, Sumsub stores your documents so you can reuse them.
